Hull v Bury – Sunday 27th March 2022

Hull played host to Bury on a warm spring day in The North & Scotland League.  The visitors were unable to field a first division side so the spotlight fell on the division two and three matches.

Both second division sides were made up of a mixture of experience, new riders and juniors.  The visitors began well with a 7-3 for George Keeble / Rob Lees before Hull replied with a maximum heat win for Liam Bennett / Barry Ashton and the hosts eased into a four point interval lead thanks to  two 6-4 advantages.  Tom Dunphy / Mark Radford levelled the scores with a heat eight 7-3 for the Comets and the following race saw a heavy first bend fall for Barry Ashton which would require extended treatment and ended his participation in the match.  Regan Stubbs / Kacey Bennett restored Hull’s four point lead with a heat 12 maximum and a John Gowans / Rich Pawson 6-4 left Kacey Bennett to divide Tom Dunphy and Steve Mann to make sure of the points in the penultimate race.  A final heat 6-4 for Liam Bennett / John Gowans saw the match finish at 78 points to Hull and 72 to Bury.

Liam Bennett scored an excellent maximum for Hull with Rich Pawson also on top form dropping just one point and John Gowans looking a good prospect on his debut with good support from all the side.  Tom Dunphy, Rob Lees and Mark Radford were the pick of a sporting Bury side.
